Same issue. This is happening at our institution as well. I'm an instructional designer, and one of my instructor's courses has 17 SCORM assignments. No students has been receiving credit since the SCORM Canvas maintenance done over the weekend. The most recent one was submitted a couple of hours before the EST maintenance period, and it looks like there are no submissions after that time, although several students have emailed saying that they submitted their work over the weekend and some have submitted work this morning and afternoon. None of them are showing in the grade book. It looks like they have not completed the assignments. This is a serious issue for this instructor's course. Does this have an immediate solution?
I have another thread here, I suspect it's the same issue - the SCORM update has broken reporting in many different ways. Best thing to do is to contact Instructure, I doubt there's any work-around. I've tried pretty much everything when it comes to Articulate (Rise and Storyline) in vain.
Thanks for sharing your issues as well. Yes, I've reported it to Instructure and also to our CSM but we haven't heard back from them yet.
We have dozens of SCORM packages that are no longer reporting as completed across over 50 courses. 35+ hours of eLearning and learners aren't receiving credit for the work they are completing. This is resulting in a constant stream of user complaints and confusion directed to the instructor.
Please help us rectify this situation as soon as possible.
Adding to this as an other customer with this issue. Are there release notes on what changed with the scorm update? And what settings we may need to change? For us only packages that report a score are working now. Previous to the update we could do score or marking complete and pass back to the grade book.
Same issue here. Escalated this matter to CSM and no response yet.
Question for all of you... we are quite new to incorporating Articulate Storyline into Canvas. Are you all using the SCORM LTI (which our Customer Success Manager at Instructure had to enable for us) to load Articulate Storyline content into your courses? I wrote up a process in this thread on how to load content...is this what you are doing and is now not working properly? If so, what exactly is not working?
We are using Rise, so we produce Rise courses and within the Rise courses we have Storyline assignments. Rise courses get exported in SCORM zip files and set to pass once a user reachers 50% completion within the course.
This usually results in a user navigating through half the course, then they receive 10 points within Canvas (Rise courses can only award 0% or 100%, ie. passed/failed or complete/incomplete or 0/100% or 0/X points).
No matter what you do in the courses now, Rise courses are no longer communicating to Canvas via SCORM that the course is passed/completed. Data simply isn't being passed or there's an error preventing it from being passed to Canvas. Either way, users are left with a 0/incomplete/not started yet when they finish assignments.
Prior to the weekend update we would load our scorm packages as Graded activities. For content that had embedded quizzing, we would pass the score. For non-quizzed we would pass completion based on content viewed and then show as checked in the gradebook. Doing as ungraded for these never worked before for us, we had to go all Graded Activities to get it to mark in the gradebook. Now with the update these aren't working. Will be testing now to see if loading as ungraded is the fix going forward.
The process you describe in the link is exactly the process I use. Since 10-10-20, I have not tried adding new Storyline assignments. The issue is with those already in the course. Mine would previously send a grade to the canvas gradebook once the users got to the final slide. Now, Canvas is not reflecting anything in the gradebook after completing the lesson.
Actually Instructure Support has come back to us saying their engineers are now looking to provide a fix probably a script to update all the broken SCORM links but couldn't provide a timeframe for it. So our business users who are managing courses with SCORM components have decided to update the links manually that points to our server.
Watching this thread, having the same issue - scorm 1.2 assignments were tracking fine until update was pushed out on 10/10.
Same issue here - any response from Canvas?
Same here. We have many courses at our institution that use SCORM and faculty are reporting issues with the gradebook not recording as complete.
Same here. Have had SCORM files uploaded for months and all worked and now none are reporting back.
I found that the few Storyline files I have that use javascript to report a custom variable to Canvas still work, but anything that uses the normal reporting function is just broken.
I logged a support call but have had nothing back.
I've been on the phone this morning with Canvas support. I now have a case in level 2 engineering, I think they call it. From what I could gather this morning, nothing has been done about the issue yet and I'm not sure they know how much their update has broken.
So, I would advice you all to push for answers to your support cases so they understand the gravity of the issue. I'll keep you posted if they do/say anything.
Hi everyone. I have finally figured out a fix that is working well for us for Storyline to report to the gradebook, adapted from some tips I found in the Articulate community. First, I made sure that I was using the most up to date Articulate 360 Storyline version. Then I did the following:
This solution cleared up the issue of reporting in Canvas. These practice informal assessments in my instructor's course are only worth 5 points and a small percentage of their grade. She uses them as participation points, so as long as students complete them, they receive the points. This is a flipped classroom, so students also have to practice applying these concepts in class, so it's worth the effort to complete them.
Here's where I originally found the solution from Sean O'Brien in the comments of this post: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/articulate-is-not-sending-scores-t...
I hope this helps!
Thanks for the level of detail you provided! I think likely this is working for you because you are re-uploading (or uploading new) SCORM files to Canvas. The process that you described is very similar to what I do as well, which has always worked in the past. The issue I think many of us are experiencing though is that this maintenance event messed up SCORM files that were already in courses and were previously reporting to the gradebook just fine. I at least am looking for a solution from Canvas that prevents me from having to re-upload all the SCORM files that are already being used in an active Canvas course. Besides that taking a long time to complete, it messes with everyone's grades who already completed that assignment, forcing me to manually regrade hundreds of submitted assignments.
Happy news - I think.
I received an answer to my case last Friday and it appears that our scoring is working once again. I'm very happy about it but not quite sure what to make of it. Through my calls with the support team it appeared that the issue is that our packages were returning a score of "unknown" (but a "Completion" of complete - see image). Since the update, this was no longer accepted as enough in Canvas to pass points. But they implemented a fix and now it seems to be working again - both for previously uploaded content and new content (that I tested by uploading several packages today, all passed scores properly).
However, I got this response:
"Hello, Our engineers have deployed a fix to assist with this issue. They've found that all files that were not working in this seem to have been incorrectly formatted for proper grade passback. While we are unable to fix the formatting for those 3rd party files, or to keep this from happening in the future, we've run a fix to assist with grading for the ones currently exhibiting this behavior. Because the files that are returning an unknown score are still improperly configured to record scores, the fix we ran was to give scores of 100% to indicate completion, but only if 1) there was not already any score data, and 2) the SCORM package was marked as COMPLETED. All past behaviors for properly functioning packages should remain the same. This is a one-time fix, and cannot be done on an ongoing basis. If you were seeing this for a lot of your SCORM files, you may want to work with the 3rd party from which the SCORM content was created, to ensure the files are not only listed as a proper SCORM version, but are formatted correctly for that version. SCORM versions supported in Canvas are SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 (2nd, 3rd, and 4th Edition). Please let us know if you have any further questions we can assist with on this issue. Keep learning! Support Panda Notifier of Things"
Not quite sure what to make of it. They say it's a one-time fix but it's functioning properly even for newly uploaded content. Is there anyone who can make sense of it?
