Hi,
I have been asked to run a couple of workshops at my faculty on "Canvas through the lens of a tutor". I have been looking at Canvas from the perspective of a designer but not real cluey on the needs of a tutor. If you were asked to run a one hour workshop what would you include? It's mainly geared towards navigating around Canvas and showing various features that particularly pertain to the role of a tutor e.g. sending out mass emails.
thanks,
George.
Hi @george_hatsidim ! I'm relatively new to Canvas and I'm still discovering its many uses. I work with tutors often, however, and I would suggest that you include in a workshop the ability to upload a document and mark it up. Some tutors work with writing and this can be especially useful for that type of subject. The calendar is very useful too, and can be set for assignments and their various due dates so students can keep their assignments organized easily. This is also useful for the tutor's organization. Good luck! #tutoring
Will the tutors have grade book access? If so, "message students who" should definitely be included. What about context cards? Those could be helpful for tutors to quickly see an overview of recent participation of a particular student. A tutor should also know about what if grades to help students see what they can do on future assignments to bring up their average.
Does that help?
Hi Dallas,
thanks for your thoughtful suggestions. The first suggestion is definitely one to include so thanks for bringing it to my attention. In fact I didn't even know that menu existed.
My institution doesn't seem to have context cards enabled and I'll have to get some further advice on "What-If Grades" but it's definitely a helpful start!
