Hi all,

It came to my attention today about character limits regarding Catalog:

Teaser: is a brief paragraph summarizing the course and appears with the listing on the catalog page. In the sample listing in the sidebar, you can see how the text will appear in the listing as you type. The teaser field cuts off from view in the listing at approximately 280 characters, though the text field supports up to 1000 characters.  

Full Description: is a full description of the course listing. The content editor allows you to format text, create lists, indent content, and insert links and images. The editor also supports editing HTML content. There is no character limit for the full description.

Certificate of Completion: There is currently a limit for the certificate name of 255 Characters as mentioned by Instructure.

Thank you for the clarification.

If there is a way to add a request for expansion it is in the limited number of characters for the certificate.

We utilize Canvas Catalog for continuing education, which is overseen my numerous accrediting bodies. They all have specific approval statements, and contact hour award verbiage. When you have an educational event that involves numerous interprofessional entities – there can be a large number of statements/characters that are needed on one certificate.

Since the system does not allow the learner to choose from a number of certificates, limiting the number of characters in the HTML version is difficult.

I would recommend submitting a feature request and tagging it #catalogenhancements and getting votes to meet your needs.

Thanks – for clarification is the certificate character limit for the “certificate name/title” or for the certificate as a whole?
