[ARCHIVED] Clear or exclude a quiz attempt

I'm seeing a lot of similar questions are marked as solved, when nothing is solved here!

I am having to manually make grade adjustments rather than letting the system run because of unintentional submissions/issues. I allow two attempts on my assignment quizzes with the average score recording as their grade for the assignment. Power outages, internet glitches, accidental submissions, errors in pages loading, all reasons why we should be able to exclude an attempt from counting in the grade book. You don't want to make it so we can delete an attempt, fine, but at least make an option to exclude the attempt from counting towards the student's grade since our only option is to give them an additional attempt.

In new quizzes we now have some additional moderation options that should limit the need to exclude an attempt:

In the instructor view of the quiz there is a moderate tab.  On the moderate tab, there is a list of attempts.  You can manually submit attempts that get stuck as "in progress."  You will also see a moderate button at the far right of the page.  Clicking that button gives yo the ability to reopen (and add time to) those attempts that students have an excuse for.  Rather than delete or exclude, this offers a way to fix a disrupted attempt. 

In my own courses, I don't use the average as a way to calculate the score for multiple attempts in my own courses, and so I generally only need the option to allow another attempt.  The options are all there together.

Not being able to clear an attempt on a quiz is a pretty serious design bug for many of us.  For tests, I offer one, timed attempt.  Re-tests allow them one more attempt which is AVERAGED.  This means that they can potentially recover half of their score.  When our WiFi goes down or some other problem interferes with their second attempt and they have a zero in for that second attempt, no amount of "just give them another attempt" type stuff solves this problem of a zero averaged into their score.  Please DO NOT MARK the problem as solved.  There are many situations that may result in the need to remove an attempt, not just this one.  I can think of three or four others that I've encountered and can imagine others. Clearing an attempt is the specific issue that needs addressing.  Reasons why I shouldn't need to do it are not solutions.
