Not being able to clear an attempt on a quiz is a pretty serious design bug for many of us. For tests, I offer one, timed attempt. Re-tests allow them one more attempt which is AVERAGED. This means that they can potentially recover half of their score. When our WiFi goes down or some other problem interferes with their second attempt and they have a zero in for that second attempt, no amount of "just give them another attempt" type stuff solves this problem of a zero averaged into their score. Please DO NOT MARK the problem as solved. There are many situations that may result in the need to remove an attempt, not just this one. I can think of three or four others that I've encountered and can imagine others. Clearing an attempt is the specific issue that needs addressing. Reasons why I shouldn't need to do it are not solutions.

I agree that customization of the late policy would be of HUGE benefit. I have to manually go in and subtract days from the "Days Late" to remove weekends, and then Grade Sync ALL, since Canvas does not recognize removing late points does not trigger Canvas to think it needs to re-sync those assignments.

@mcarpenter2 The problem is not the pages showing on the to do list. I've actually started having to add them on purpose, because the default is for them to NOT appear on the to-do list. The problem is assignments and quizzes that automatically ALWAYS appear on the to-do list. Students click on those links without having clicked on the lesson pages that come before. Becasue I cannot remove quizzes and assignments from the to-do list, I've started adding the pages to the to-do list, and putting them into separate modules that MUST be completed before they can move on to the quiz or assignment.
It's a real ain to have to add all of that, and set up requirements and prerequisites, but If students can use the to-do list to skip your content, then something has to be done.

This is an ongoing issue, and has been for years. When trying to export questions or a question bank, you typically export the course or a quiz - you may also "copy course" if it is your course. None of these methods export the actual images in any consistent basis. They export links to the images in the course it came from. If you look at the html and see the "verifier" in the image source, you know that it is linking to another course. That works most of the time, as long as the other course exists and you don't change your questions in any way. Edit them once though, and all those images are gone. It's a horrible way for canvas to try to save space by including links to images rather than the images themseles. It reduces sharing question banks to a crap shoot whenever there are images involved.

I need this for free-response questions, "show-your-work" calculations, etc. Also, If a student downloads their own annotations and tries to make changes and re-upload those annotations disappear. Some don't show at all. The PDF's need to be "Flattened" to make the annotations permanently show.
This needs to be implemented. How did it go from being voted on in one thread and "oopen for conversation" here? This needs to be voted on again if the threads have been merged.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to fix this. If you want a hard way, you can do it in Adobe Acrobat.
Go into the Javascript curly braces { } and then edit the "Will Print" section to say
{
this.flattenPages();
}
Then it will flatten the pages (basically like merging layers in a photo editor) into a single document. The annotations then become visible on the printed document. If you add it to the "will save" event then it will flatten before a save, and the annotations will become a permanent part of the file.
Not easy for the uninitiated - I'm about to add the javascript to the blank pdf worksheets I post so that (hopefully) the students annotations will appear automatically.

I have literally put thousands of hours into question banks. I created spreadsheets and macros to create custom xml import files to load specially created questions into canvas question banks. Many of my chemistry banks have literally thousands of questions. There is absolutely no way to move to new quizzes without the ability to import and export banks. I certainly will not create any items in new quizzes if I cannot export them. I've shared many of my item banks with others outside of my institution. It seems that new quizzes severely limits reusability and portability, which is what most other platforms are trying to achieve. If I change institutions and have done any development in new quizzes, then all of my work is lost. I'll go back to Moodle before I'll use new quizzes unless they add export/import.. It has the drag-and-drop question type that I like so much for card-sorts anyway.

Because the app has always been kind of buggy for some things, many of the students use the browser rather than the app. In that case they get heic files. Also, my understanding (when I ask a student who has submitted a HEIC file) is that the app does not convert heic files. If you take a picture WITH THE APP, then it is in jpg format, but if you take a picture with some other app (your camera app), and then upload it even in the app, then it remains in heic format.

Why is "turning off confetti" higher on the priority list than "turning off the to-do list", which has had numerous serious complaints about how it affects instruction. While I don't particularly like confetti, it doesn't affect my instruction near as much as students skipping lessons and going straight to assessments becase they saw it in the to-do list. Fix high-priority items, or at least tell us you are working on it.

Another work-around when it comes to assignments is to put specific file types in the list. I typically include JPG, PNG, DOC, DOCX, and PDF in the list. Then if students try to upload an HEIC file it won't accept it. They can then paste it into a document or convert it to pdf. Most students figure it out on their own when the HEIC file type isn't accepted. I've only used this with assignment uploads.

I use module progression for the "previous" "next" feature and for requirements & prerequisites, but Hide the actual modules because I use Pages as the home page and as landing pages for each unit, week, and day. Since the students do not see modules, the "Return" in new quizzes just dumps them back at the home page. Students have to drill al the way back down to where they started, and can still get lost. Embedding the quiz in a page is a partial work-around, but then require a passing grade to move on, since pages don't have grades. Without "previous" and "next" features, new quizzes completly breaks the "flow" of the courses I have designed over the last few years and for that reason alone I cannot use it. It needs to be fixed before classic quizzes goes away. It's the primary reason that I have not switched and that none of my fellow staff have switched. This timeline is way to fast for as many bugs/missing features as new quizzes has. At a bare minimum it should have the full functionality of classic quizzes. Learning a new feature can be fun, but having something you've used for years suddenly stop working is staggeringly bad form. Adding new features is fine, but a new release should never remove prior functionality. It just isn't done.

I had a similar problem. There was a corrupted question in my question bank. I moved the questions to another bank one at a time until it broke again. Then moved all but that one to yet a third bank. When done I deleted the other banks and things were back to normal. Quite a lot of things to do, but even after I found the question, deleting did no good. It affected the whole bank.

I guess we had an update, because now when I try to create a question that contains equations in the answers or feedback, all I get is the code for the equation showing in the RCE rather than the equation I typed. What is far, far worse, is that if I once save the answer or feedback by clicking "Done" and then click the edit again, the equations become completely screwed up, there are weird graphics pieces scattered around, blank space that cannot be removed, and the questions are never editable again. Also, if you again click "edit equation" you get a blank editor - if you try to get out of it, or just "insert equation" with nothing in the editor, you now get an error trying to upate or save the entire question. I get a little red box "Unexpected Error ID 1584280" The question is completly corrupt.
In my research, it appears that this was done for some accessibily issue, which I never had, but now the equations are completly NOT accessible to me. If this keeps up I'll have to go back to pasting pictures of equations that I make in a word processor like the old days. The LaTex editor was great once it allowed re-editing of equations. Now things are 100 times worse, because it breaks things I already had working if I go back to copy, update, or otherwise make changes. If you look at the underlying html, you have pages of MathJax junk that completly obscures our own html, so if you like to edit things in the html, you are out of luck. There is so much junk in there I'm surprised bandwith doesn't become a problem.
Please fix this.

I agree that not having HEIC compatibility is a nightmare, and will soon result in speed grader being an unusable feature if it is not fixed. In the meanwhile, rather than converting and reuploading, a better solution is to ask the students to change the settings on their iPhone. Unless they are some sort of camera buff, they probably don't care about the file type for their pictures. Give them these instructions: Through the iOS settings app. Scroll down to "Camera," tap "Formats" and pick "most compatible" for JPEG instead of "high efficiency" for HEIC. If they are transfering to their PC or to Google drive or elsewhere before uploading, Apple Photos also can be configured to convert HEIC into JPEGs. Tap "Photos" in the iOS settings app, find the "Transfer to Mac or PC" section, then choose "automatic."

I agree with @msubstel and especially @stuart_walsh. Without the full fuctionality of the rest of things that might go in modules, New Quizzes is more like a Beta release. "Try it and make suggestions before we give it full funcionallity and roll it out". I can't use it at all until it's fixed. It breaks too many things that I've built into my course navigation for literally years. (since I started using canvas over Moodle).

New quizes breaks some forms of progression, since there is no "Next" button. It dumps you back into modules. I use, but do not display my modules. I want my students to follow my pages and links. In this case it always dumps you back at the home page. The workaround is to make the new quiz inside of an iframe on a page. Then you can see the previous/next buttons. This has the disadvantage of breaking the module's conditions for a particular score to move on, though, since pages don't have scores.
