Hi folks,
If I link to https://canvas.example.com/courses/123/ then users are prompted to login with the default authentication option, and then redirected to their destination. Can anyone think of a way to make this work with secondary authentication methods too?
For example, local Canvas accounts are our default authentication option, and deep-linking works fine for people who use these. However some people instead use ADFS (SAML) authentication, and log in at https://canvas.example.com/login/saml/. What I want is a way to deep-link to courses so that these people can login and be redirected to their destination -- something like https://canvas.example.com/login/saml?dest=https://canvas.example.com/courses/123/.
Does anyone have a suitably clever solution for this?
Many thanks!
Stuart.
Due to the technical nature of this question I'm going to share it with the Canvas Developers group in the Community. They are the ones that work with this side of Canvas and should hopefully be able to help! In addition, you might consider joining the Developers group and checking out some of their other resources/information!
sbell, the way we handled it was to provide a link to reach secondary authentication (in our case, Canvas) from the primary authentication screen (SAML). Ours is just a hyperlink, but I've seen other institutions use a graphical button.
We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
