Thanks, @kmallen, I was able to work with our institution's CSM team to get a chance to try out the feature. I like that it improves discoverability of assigned peer reviews for students and hope that it will eventually communicate deadlines as @LauraCira and @snugent also suggested.
Unfortunately I'm also seeing evidence in this new feature that there's been an uncommunicated change to how peer review works, overall, in Canvas. For many years, our teachers have used the capability of How do I manually assign peer reviews for an assignment? mentioned in the first bullet point of that guide's Notes. I'll copy it here in case it gets revised away:
When manually assigning peer reviews, students can complete their assigned peer reviews without having to submit their own assignment first.
This isn't possible anymore as of a few weeks ago; our support case about that, 09636446, remains On Hold as of this comment's initial posting. However, that new change is reflected in on-screen help for Assignment Enhancements peer review support:
@jsailor, is there anything Canvas Product can share about why that on-screen help is there and whether it confirms a removal of a previously supported/documented workflow for peer review?

Suggestion: If you're affected by this, please report it to Canvas Support. (If "Report a Problem" first goes to your institution's Canvas admins, ask them to open a Service Cloud case about it.)
My guess is that this quiz-printing issue is a side effect of what's supposed to be a temporary measure involving the RCE in New Quizzes: Turning Off the New Rich Content Editor in New Quizzes

Rated 5 stars! While joining past appointments thankfully isn't supported with Calendar appointment signup, I agree that strikethrough of past appointments will improve consistency with other types of Calendar items and reduce confusion for users.

@mshphd, details of how these notifications work are here:
Canvas Notifications
By default they are sent immediately to students by email. What each notification contains is simple and functional. Subject lines will look like one of the following, including a parenthetical with the course name at the end:
"Appointment <name of appointment group> is available for signup"
"Appointment <name of appointment group> has been updated"
"Appointments for <name of appointment group> have been canceled"
With any of these subject lines, the message body will include a brief list including the applicable date(s); whether signup is individual or by course group; and the number of available timeslots as of the time of sending the notification. At the end, there's a link which, if followed, will go right to this set of appointments in the Calendar, bypassing the need to press Find Appointment and select a course. (The link seen on Syllabus for an appointment group, if available the course, works the same way.)
These student notifications have been very effective at our institution. But after the years-ago removal of a Publish-like button for this feature, we'd benefit from them being an option the builder of the appointment group could configure - hence my 5-star rating here.

@PatrickCox, the calendar feed data will include all the user's current courses with up to 1,000 events from the past 30 days through the next year (plus one day). For more details on what's included, see:

@SVS, it sounds like this is a site for an upcoming course. By any chance, is either Course participation set to begin on a future date, or (with Term participation set) is the course in a term which hasn't started yet?
When I tested those, Join buttons weren't shown, but lock icons were shown for a course which hasn't started yet according to those settings (regardless of publishing). The good news is that the Join buttons should begin to appear at the desired start date.

Based on the New Quizzes Feature Comparison, which mentions "Hide Student Responses Available Window", my sense is that the functionality gap is more of a "maybe in the future" rather than "not needed." We've been using New Quizzes successfully at our business school for several years, and slowly but surely new features have been added.

@maki1, agreed -- if this idea conversation becomes Open, I'll vote for it because I'm also interested in improved differentiation of due and availability dates. Ideally, dates/times set for individual students would always completely override what's been set for the section, and both individual and section should override the dates/times applicable to Everyone Else.

@MichelleMcCann, will your students be signing up for these appointments individually? I wasn't sure whether your mention of "group" meant that students are reserving on behalf of their groups in these courses.
For individual signup, you can definitely make a set of appointments available to more than one course you teach:
How do I add a Scheduler appointment group in a course calendar? (see Select Calendars)
Unfortunately, that setting won't work in conjunction with "Have students sign up in groups" (see Allow Group Signup at link above). With that option, only one course -- not its sections, the whole course, can be chosen under Select Calendars.

Yes, that's expected -- it's the only way a leader can see who's eligible to be added to their group. At this time there's not a feature for the leader to indicate that a group is complete, nor a similar affordance which would result in no longer seeing a list of all students. (But the teacher could turn off "Allow self sign-up" to achieve that result, after everyone is in their group.)

@PatrickCox, leaders actually do see all the unassigned students -- they're the ones unchecked in the Manage Student Group pop-up described here:

Even so, I agree that it should be much clearer that others are unassigned, and that the unassigned list needs to load much faster and be easier to work with.
