Hi all, I used the Redirect Tool to place a incourse link but I misspelled the link title. Is there a way to rename the link in the left side menu or better yet just delete it? I can move to the hide column but want to remove clutter of misspelled items.
Thanks,
Eric
Solved! Go to Solution.
In your course go to Settings, Apps and click the View Apps Configurations button. Find the App you created (it will be named what you entered for the navigation tab) and click the Gear on the right side, and then Edit. See if editing the name here works. If not, you can just delete it in this same spot and add it back in with the name spelled correct.

Thanks Rick, That worked perfectly.

The gear icon will only show up on that screen if the app has been installed at the course level. If an app has been installed at the Canvas account level, then within your course, you will see the "i" icon (as shown in your screen shot). If you click on that icon, you should be able to see where the app is placed within the course. You cannot remove an app at the course level that been installed at the account level. Canvas admins can remove an app at the account level, but it would remove it from all courses that are in that Canvas account. There may be colleagues/co-workers at your school who are using apps that you are not using, so you'd have to have a conversation with your Canvas admin team to see if there were any ramifications about removing an app at the account level.
I hope this helps to clarify things for you.
The info screen says the Apps are placed in "Course navigation" and "Assignment and Link Selection".
The distinction between installed at the course level and at the account level is not clear to me.
I am not an admin. These apps are links that I created with the Redirect Tool in last year's version of the course. I then imported them into this year's course. The problem is that the URLs are now outdated. It seems like a flaw if I cannot remove or edit something I made.
Removing the Redirect Tool for everyone would surely cause problems, but removing just these links should not.

You can find more information about the placement of LTI apps such as the Redirect Tool by taking a look at this Guide: How do I manage external app placements for a cour... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com). Starting with the heading "Open Placements", this section and below shows the difference between having a "Settings" (cog/gear) icon vs. just the "Information" (i) icon. If you only have the "Information" icon, then an app has been installed at the account level. If you have the "Settings" icon, then the app has been installed at the course level.
You said that you had imported content from a previous course. I have not tested this myself, but if you compare your previous course to your current course, do you see any differences between the "Settings" and "Information" icons on that screen? I wonder if you can remove app from your previous course but not your current course?
Please keep us posted...thanks!
Thank you for your help!
There is no difference between last year's course and this year's.
I also tested to make a new link directly in the current course, and I cannot remove or edit that either.
The information pop-up on my end does not have the checkmark or X icons described in your link.
I do wish there was a more native way to make custom pages in a course visible in the navigation menu than these write-only absolute URLs.
