Hello @ElisaRandall 

I understand you are needing some help on replying to discussions in Canvas. 

• To post a reply to a discussion, you will navigate to the course and access the discussions area of your course. Sometimes you can locate the discussion in the modules page directly. You will just click on the discussion in question to access it and view the description and your peers replies. 
• From there you will locate the reply button and click on it. It should pop open a box(Rich Content Editor) for you to type your reply within. Once you have the response typed up, you can click the "Post reply" button and it will post it to the discussion.

If your discussion is using the redesign feature, THIS would be the guide for you.
