I teach a college English course in which matching questions on tests are common, questions in which students, for instance, must match themes or characters or quotations with the titles of the novels they're identified with. I imagine that professors teaching courses in a variety of other fields—history, foreign language, political science, music theory, etc.—also have cause to devise matching questions whose answers would likewise require italics for titles of books, musical compositions, works of art, etc.
This is my first year using Canvas. I've searched for an answer to this question, both within the Canvas community and in the broader Google database, and have discovered only that 5 years ago somebody was thinking about recommending italics as an enhancement for the answers of matching questions. Any update?

Hi, @ssilvest Welcome to the Canvas Community! As you've observed, we have a long-standing feature idea requesting the ability to add formatting to matching pairs: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/2231-new-quizzes-rich-content-editor-rce-for-matching-question... The Ideas page lists the features and enhancements on which our teams are currently working.
We do not currently have updates to share on the matching question idea; when we do, they will be posted directly to that idea, so please follow it to stay on top of developments.
Thanks, Sid! Stay well, and be safe.
