I use that option every day!
This was specifically because in our district our virtual students are required to stick to their class time schedule as if they were in school. Attendance (and school funding from the state is based on this).
However, some of my virtual students don't take their tests and quizzes during their scheduled time slot. They delay until they've heard from their friends what questions are on the quiz. This is a for a high school level course, I have 3 virtual sections and so have to set multiple different available from and due times for each quiz. I want to be able to contact students BEFORE their quiz or test is late, 5 minutes after they should have started I would like to be able to see that they haven't yet begun. It is just one more tool to try to reduce cheating, I know that some (certainly not all) of my students are waiting until their friends have sent them photos of their answer sheets. We do pick questions from a bank of questions for each type of question, I also use Proctorio to try to reduce collaboration and cheating. But in reality we know that if they felt inclined to many of our virtual students can find ways to get help on tests and quizzes in many ways.
