Thank you for contacting Canvas Support. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with getting a ranked quiz/discussion for your students. The likes in the Canvas discussions are (for now) mostly just there without any real context. We don't display the names but it is a great idea. Additionally, you have options for sure. You can create a page and allow students to "edit" the page and fill out a table or cast their votes. You can set that option at the bottom of the page so that students can contribute directly. You could also just have a link in a discussion/page to a Google Doc or Spreadsheet where students can place their votes. Lastly, you should be able to have a quiz and see percentages of what students voted for what. Your best bet is to make it simple and multiple choice. You can have them all set to be correct answers if you want and you can use analytics to get a breakdown of who "answered" the questions accordingly. It changes depending on new or classic quizzes but here are the guides:
