Hi, I'm actually not familiar with the Free for Teachers version, but I do know grading periods is done via System Admin (not at the course level). So I'm thinking it's not possible have grading periods set up for the free courses. You may want to set up Assignments Groups, however, for each quarter. That may help somewhat.
