[ARCHIVED] Grouping courses into programs

My school has programs like Medical Coding and Billing, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Medical Office Assistant. Each of these programs consists of a set of courses. Some of these courses (e.g. Introduction to Healthcare and Medical Terminology) belong to all programs. Is there a way for me to represent the concept of a program in Canvas where programs are groups of courses and where courses can belong to multiple programs? Can a sub account be used for this purpose? Thx.

Hi Kathy:

We have developed an in-house app called Easel that enables us to add supplemental functionality to Canvas including the ability to organize Canvas accounts, which are sets of courses (maroon tiles on the right), into Easel sets, which can be departments and programs (green tiles on the left). The video shows that you can add the same course to many programs. What is your use case? BTW, Easel also enables us to give individualized assignment due dates to self-paced students.

Hi  @anonz3000 ‌, sorry for the delay. That app looks nice; very clever. For us, a bit like you, I want to differentiate between different programs, which then have different courses and then different modules subsequently (and as you say some overlap does exist between where courses/modules sit). I guess we really just want to determine a more structured hierarchy - with different admins/permissions too ideally. So far I have just manufactured this at the courses level - but this leads to there being so much content within one 'course' (with the modules representing our actual courses) which doesn't seem ideal. It's good to know that you needed to create extra functionality to enable to same sort of thing though and that I'm not just missing something that already exists!
