The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I had students write a paragraph and I need to correct their errors, such as, grammar, spelling and spacing.

Hello,
So this isn't really a solution. I would like the option of writing comments/annotations on text entries (as I'm assuming others would) so that I can lock down our browsers to Canvas. With the document viewer option the student has to work outside of Canvas like in Google docs which opens up the entire internet for them. In light of the cheating tools that students can use, this would be very helpful. How can we get this feature in the future?
Also it would be helpful for the text entry to save so that students could work on it over several days.
Maybe you have another work around?
Theresa
Good afternoon, @theresa_jarvis ...
Stefanie has retired (I forget exactly when), so you won't see any further postings from her here in the Community. All that being said, the solution she provided was an answer to the question that text entry submissions cannot be annotated by the instructor. However, if you feel that her response isn't a solution, you can click on the three-dot kebab icon at the top right corner of her response and then select "Not the Solution" in the menu choices that appear.
I also wanted to point you to the Ideas and Themes space here in the Community. I was able to find a couple links for you that might be of interest:
If you go to this Theme, you'll find that this Idea has been listed under the section "Referenced Ideas":
I'd encourage you to follow these links so that you can stay up-to-date on if Instructure would implement something like this in Canvas for text entry submissions.
Finally, here is a link to the Ideas and Themes Guides in case you would like to read more about the process:

I hope these links will be helpful to you. Sing out if you have any questions. Thanks!
