How do I change grade display type from points to letters?

Andy,

This is something that would need to be done on each assignment individually.  Edit the Assignment and in the Display Type section change it to Letter grade.  You'll also need to click the link there to set up a Grading Scheme which tells Canvas how you want letter grades calculated (grading scale).

For the Total grade to show as a letter grade you'll need to go to your Course Settings and check the box to Enable a Grading Scheme.  Also in this case you'll need to set up your scale.

Is there any way to change the default choice from Display Grade as Points to Display Grade as Letter Grade when creating an assignment in Canvas? I know how to do it for individual assignments, but it would be so great to have the option to set it as a default for all assignment created moving forward.
