Hi @mallersb , Canvas made changes to the muting policy over the summer, but if you just switched over to the new gradebook, you may not be familiar with that change yet. In your gradebook, click the ellipse icon at the top of the assignment column, and select grade posting policy. You'll want to set your policy to manual before you start entering grades. After entering grades, you'll go back to that menu and post the scores. There's more details in this guide: How do I use posting policies in my course, including how you can set a course-level policy for all assignments, basically muting everything by default.
