I'd like to name my questions as Question 1a, Question 1b, ... but they appear as Question 1, Question 2,... which I don't like. How can I make a big question which sub-question a, b, a, c (which have different formats) in Canvas?

You might try using "Fill In Multiple Blanks" or "Multiple Dropdowns" questions to create something like this.
Re. naming your questions: when they deploy to students, they will only see "Question 1", "Question 2", etc., no matter what names you give them. The names will be visible to you, and you can use them to help organize and keep track of your sections - just don't count on having them appear to the students, unless you want to add them at the beginning of the question text.
