The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I have found the article that shows how to use an immersive reader in Canvas but there is not an article how to turn it on in your individual settings (which is how we find it at our institution). Am I missing the 'how to turn on?" article or can you create one?
Thanks!

Hello @scho0410 ...
The Immersive Reader can be toggled on/off by your school's local Canvas administrator. They would follow the instructions in this Guide:
What feature previews are currently available for an entire Canvas account?
Once it is enabled at the account level, then Immersive Reader would be available at the course level.
Hope this helps a bit!
Sorry, you're correct, and I completely forgot about that, @scho0410 ! The instructions for enabling Immersive Reader in user settings are in What feature settings can I enable in my user acco...
Hi Sara...
Stefanie has given you awesome info. I was also going to give you a link to the Guide (which I think is linked in the blue box at the top of the Guide Stefanie gave you):
How do I manage new features in my user account as a student?
Also, as a side note...I watched your video, and it is interesting that you said the red "x" could be interpreted as a "delete" function. I hadn't really thought about that, and I could totally see that being a bit confusing. Maybe that's a candidate for a Feature Idea to have those icons changed to something else???

Hello and thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately I don't think I was clear in what I was asking. The Big setting needs is already turned on at our institutional level, what I'm looking for is a guide to hand to students that can show them where to go to turn it on for their own classes or individual settings. Simply something that says go to your Account > then Settings > then scroll waaaaaaay down and turn on the Microsoft Immersive Reader and now when you go to one of your Canvas courses you will now see an immersive reader button on your Canvas pages, assignments, quizzes, etc...
If there is a guide for students (on how to turn it on for their individual settings I haven't found it).
Thank you
Students don't need to enable Immersive Reader, @scho0410 . If the school has enabled it at the account level, the Immersive Reader button will automatically display wherever the tool is supported, as detailed in How do I use the Microsoft Immersive Reader in a c... . If your students aren't seeing it, please double-check with the local Canvas admin to make sure it has been turned on for the school.
^ This is wrong, and I stand corrected! 😱
Oh weird, something is happening at our institution that is not that same as you are describing. I have made a little screencast showing what's happening for us that seems to be different than what you've said should be happening (sorry I didn't chance to caption this video but can if needed).

YES!!!! These are the resources I was looking for (though didn't really know this is what I was looking for).
What features settings can I enable?
AND
How do I manage settings (in my account)?
Thank you!
