[ARCHIVED] Is there a way that a PLC can have a shared course in Commons?

I hope I can as this in a way that is understandable. We work in PLC groups. If we are trying to build a course from the ground up and we all take part in developing the materials, is there a way for each person to add it to one spot? Or maybe the question should be, is there a way that we all can have access to a course within Commons that we can all add content and materials to?

Instead of commons, our district allowed us to create master courses, in which teachers of the subject matter are added as teachers. For example, physics teachers in the district have their own canvas shells and there is a master physics shell that we share lessons, ideas, etc. There are a biology master course, chemistry master course, etc.

No students are enrolled in the master course, it’s simply used for teachers to communicate with each other during PLCs and share lessons. This works out so that if interested in a lesson then teachers copy from the master to their own shell.  It’s also a great way to get new teachers to the district up to speed quickly. A new teacher copies the master and immediately has a working course that they can modify.

To speed up development, I created the courses and added the teachers during a district meeting. It helped to make sure each teacher could get to the course. From that point, it took a life of its own. 

Teachers add during PLCs, district meetings, during side conversations, etc. 

We are working on shared assessments across the district now because of Canvas but have a snag because the item banks sharing gives full rights. We are hoping that changes because some teachers are still not too careful about editing.
