Is it possible to be in the item banks, create a stimulus, then tie questions to the new stimulus? It appears I have to be in the build of a quiz. If I build the stimulus and tie questions in the new quiz build, then add to item bank, how do I make sure they are not pulled randomly without the stimulus provided?

I'm sorry. I'm definitely not understanding your requirements and made some poor assumptions. The latest blog post includes a statement regarding a download for item analysis. New Quizzes Integrations Quarterly Update - Q4 202... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) What are you doing with the download that cannot be done with the new download of the outcome analysis? Or are you unable to use this report because of outcomes not in your questions? I know there needs to be alignment in the questions stored in the item banks before there will be a report. Since this takes considerable time that I don't have this semester (or the past few years), no outcomes are in my banks to test this report.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. The new discussion is threaded by default on my instance. There is no "option" for threaded. It's simply threaded. Here's a screenshot of my sample "Delete Me". You can see two replies then the replies to those replies aren't seen until you click into them, and a left sidebar opens. Personally, the new discussion is cleaner. In terms of Canvas asking its customers -- umm -- I've been contacted, had a nice video chat with a team, and was presented different options the team was working on. Maybe you could make the request.

Have you enabled new analytics in the Settings for the course? Settings --> Feature Options Click on the red x next to "New Course and User Analytics" and it'll present a popup to enable or disable. This allows the teacher to see high, low, average, and the teacher can message students who have the "missing" or late." Hovering over the bar graph presents the number of students and names of the students in that grade range. This supplements the "Report" in the "Build" area ... which provides some interesting information. Please don't get me wrong, the analysis in new quizzes is weak at best. I'm not sure why I can't simply hover over the assignment in the gradebook and get the high, low, and average in a popup. There should also be a simple report which states, these were the top x number of missed questions.

I realize your request is for students not to answer a question, but maybe this workaround will help. Use the multiple choice (deleting options down to two options) as section dividers. These multiple-choice questions let the students know they have finished level 1 questions (animated gif of fireworks) and will now be asked level 2 questions. They are asked if they understand, yes or no (true / false). The question is marked as worth zero points. The level dividers are kept in an item bank titled "Level Dividers" ... and added as the quiz is built. I hope this helps.

Hi It seems I'm only complaining about Instructure lately. Sorry. Observation "This Course" is not showing item banks created within the course. Instead, the only way to get them to show up under that pull down menu is to share the item bank to the course. However, once the semester is done, a copy of the course is made for the next semester, and "This Course" is blank again. Worse, "Banks Shared to Course" show ALL item banks that have been shared. Expectation The expectation is that banks created within the course should show under "This Course." Also, once the course is copied then the expectation is that the item banks continue to show under "This Course" for that particular course. The expectation for "Banks Shared to Course" would be for only item banks shared to that course show and not all shares. Result of feature / bug The result is that the drop downs have no benefit. A teacher with 200 item banks isn't going to "share to the course" only to have them disappear the next semester. This would be a waste of a teacher's time. If this is not intentional behavior, then I hope developers of New Quizzes are able to find the errant code. If this is intentional then someone at Instructure seriously needs to think through why anyone would want the two drop-down menus.

Thank you for the update and reassurance that New Quizzes is important. Here are the biggest "glitches" to using New Quizzes that upset teachers at the high school level. Sharing item banks takes way too long. There should be an option to select multiple banks and sharing done in one move. Copying an item bank of questions should be possible. Along this line, selecting multiple questions to move to another bank should be possible. In other words, multiple questions should be able to be shared in one move. Formula based questions are okay except you cannot add a dropdown as a fill-in-the-blank style. For example, teachers want a formula question so numbers are generated, but they want the SI units available as a dropdown next to the answer. Printing of a new quiz doesn't work properly if questions are pulled randomly from the item banks. If a teacher prints a copy, then tries to print an answer key, they will get different questions. A search across all of the item banks is still impossible. If there are over 28K questions in banks, then a teacher will spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find that one question that needs to be edited. The item banks are not linked in the build portion. This means a teacher may want to modify question in the item bank and have to leave the build, go to the item bank, make the changes, etc. Adding a mathematical formula into a fill-in-the-blank is impossible. This means a^2 has to be done by the student. Worse, questions cannot be built for students to add the math into formula based questions as well as fill-in-the-blank. The above are the top complaints I hear almost daily --- to the point of frustration and with some teachers abandoning Canvas for other programs. For example, Positive Physics allows formulas and SI unit dropdowns in one question. They also allow formulas. Carousel Learning is another more modern quiz engine. Personally, development of key areas of concern regarding New Quizzes seems too slow for most high school teachers. They don't have teams doing the backend and don't have prep periods and PD times. This means they are creating content on their own and get very frustrated. I hope you understand. Canvas is a great tool -- A healthy New Quizzes can make it an even better tool. Good luck.

I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t care about icons. I care about … formula questions and fill-in the blank questions can be done in the same question. Answers in fill-in allows formulas Search for a question across all the item banks Copying and sharing questions and item banks in bulk (imagine trying to share 300+ item banks). Sorry. But an icon is the least of my concerns. I look forward to improved capabilities in new quizzes.

However, adding the ticks causes the code to show rather than the equation. This probably means I'm not escaping the 7.5 properly. This leads me to the question, what is the proper way to escape? Hi Sorry. I haven't been on this community for some time. The new student annotation feature in Canvas is nice but there are errors students are running into. I tried Canvas support but we went round and round -- because they kept going in directions that had nothing to do with the error. Students who are not present on the due date, and attempt to do the student annotation assignment after the due date receive an error "There was an error loading the document" rather than the PDF loading. I have a start from set but not a closing date. There is a due date set. Tech support tried to say: refresh browser, clear cache, fix mastery path (there isn't one), have students submit first (they can't because the button is grayed out). Anyway, is anyone struggling with this bug? Did you find a work around for the kids to complete the student annotation? Update: I'm sorry. I forgot some information. The assignments are made available to 123 students, all using chromebooks issued by the district. Two students can attempt to load the same "late" assignment (a day or two after the due date). One student can get to the assignment and it loads, but another student in the same class, on the same day, will get the error.

I look forward to you posting a summary of the April calls so the community knows the direction. I stopped speaking up because it appeared to fall on deaf ears. It’s nice to see updates and to see product development. In terms of new quizzes, Navigation is a challenge. A link to Item banks should be available off the assignment & quizzes page. Item bank searching across all banks should be available Filtering across all banks (tag, question type) Item banks assigned to a course Partial credit for matching (very important) Printing a quiz Section text only divider Select multiple questions to move Import questions to banks from book publishers Export of single item bank or all item banks All of these are vital to teachers adopting new quizzes. It shouldn’t be necessary to start an “idea” because it’s not possible to know what the development team is currently focused on ... so thank you for updating everyone in your blog posts. PS. The more development updates, the happier the customers.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? The embed code is grabbed from the PPT online and pasted into a Canvas Page. I can see it, another teacher on the Canvas course can see it, but students are given the error: "login.microsoft.com refused connection."

Chrome browser release 80 and above changed the behavior of the samesite cookie feature. Prior to release 80, if the developer set cookie and didn't include the statement regarding samesite then the browser treated the cookie as samesite=none. After release 80, the browser interprets the absence of samesite as a setting of samesite=lax. The lax will block the login attempt because domains are not the same. Is there a workaround? This would be up to the Desmos developers changing their cookie settings to samesite=none which would potentially open up their server to cross scripts and other not so pleasant things.

As always, it took time to digest everything you were suggesting. This was the latest attempt to have the question specify the up or the down time. There couldn't be any cross over between the v and y variables or else the formula ended up producing imaginary numbers. What do you think of the attempt at the formula? It's my attempt at the quadratic formula to solve for the time. Next, will be an attempt to use the IF as you describe. Crossing fingers !

Is there a way to handle a formula question with multiple answers? For example, a ball is tossed up and the student is asked to calculate the time when the ball is in a particular position. This is solved through a quadratic equation and there are two answers: the time up and the time down. In this case, the question could be rearranged to ask what is the time up OR what is the time down? However, what if the question couldn't be rearranged. What are the options? How are teachers getting around this situation? Are teachers rewriting the question or is there an approach being used that someone is will to share?

Thank you for explaining ! Welcome and please don't by shy. This community has saved my bacon many times. In terms of this feature -- it's a no-brainer. I'm surprised it isn't done. However, as a person who released software (years ago), positive feedback is always helpful and negative feedback gets the bristle. We are all human and we are all frustrated by the slow development of new quizzes and many other highly voted features. Let's hope leadership is paying attention to this thread. They really harm future viability by ignoring ideas from this community. In fact, if I was the competition then the ideas section would be beautiful product development research.

Hey Gideon, Your post is spot on. Development and communication are two company weaknesses. My comment was based on the value of creating an account here and posting only a complaint. It’ll most likely be ignored. In contrast, an active community member should be heard. I love to play the ‘If I were a consultant” game. What would I suggest? 1. Put all development resources into new quizzes. Blow out the competition with a product which goes beyond expectations. Right now, new quizzes is underwhelming; it’s alphaware presented as betaware. It’s incomplete. 2. Look at https://clickup.canny.io/ and see how a nimble company uses community, communication, and consistency to foster the company growth. Copy the model. 3. Dedicate every marketing resource into keeping customers. A loss of one is the loss of uncounted dozens. How do you keep customers? Follow the ideas here and get them done. Listen to the users of the product, duh. How does this relate to this feature? It’s a no-brainer. Get it done and it’ll release some tension. Instructure needs a victory. It’s staring leadership right in their faces. Partial credit is being demanded and so the company must follow through. Layne

I agree with Bobby. Support might be able to get you going faster. You could try a Google Chrome reset (under settings >> advance) but I’m surprised dumping images in the cache didn’t fix things. Sorry not to be helpful. Good luck and please update us with how support fixed things.

Hi Have you cleared the Chrome browser cache? Clear cache & cookies - Computer - Google Account Help I agree with Bobby to check for updates. I’ve been caught off guard on that one, too. Especially Windows based machines do wild things when wanting to be updated. Another is to hold the Ctrl key and press F5 for a page reload (including images, etc).
