[ARCHIVED] Is there a way to email all enrolled users?

I am still fairly new to Canvas. As administrators, we would like to be able to email all users enrolled in a specific term. Is this possible, and if so, how do I accomplish this?

We are operating our current system alongside Canvas this summer as we finish the transition. This is the first time our students have accessed Canvas, and we would like to send them an email if they will have classes in the Canvas system so they know which system to log into for the summer.

We've been operating Canvas alongside Blackboard for the past year as we migrate away. In our situation, we found it easier to share an email template with faculty that they could use to send either a Blackboard or Canvas message to inform students on which system to use for the course. We didn't have a single complaint from faculty or student by using this method and it took the responsibility off of us considering the faculty member made the choice of system. (We did create courses and populate enrollments for both systems)

 @sbeck1 ​, what we do is create a resource course in Canvas and add every student who is using Canvas to this course - this is all done programmatically. We add them by semester so that way we know which students go with which semester. Then if I want to send them all a message I can easily go to the Inbox in Canvas and send a specific section (so semester of students) a message.

One way through the front end of Canvas to at least get their names is to go to the Admin side of Canvas, click on Settings (bottom left), click on the Report tab, and then run the "Students with no submissions" report for the summer (or fall) term - this will give you an excel spreadsheet of all students taking a class for the summer (or fall). This only works because for us summer hasn't started, so none of the students taking classes in the summer have submitted any anything. Yet, email addresses aren't included, just names and the user SIS ID.

So no, ultimately there isn't a good way to do this through Canvas unless you set something up like we did with our Resource Course.

Since it doesn't strike me that any one of those answers can be considered uniquely "correct"--they're more like different and equally good ways to accomplish what you're after--I've changed the format of your post to a discussion. It will remain visible to Canvas Admins​ group members and prominent in search results.
