Hi everyone, hope everyone is well! I am working with a faculty member to design an internship course and we are looking for a way for the students to track their internship hours. Does anyone know of a way that this is can be self-contained within Canvas because we also have a lot of adjuncts who teach this course as well and don't want to use a 3rd-party tool that is tied to a specific user account. We have access to Portfoloium but I am new to this product. Any advice? Thanks, Michael
You could try one question quizzes set to be completed every time students finish a set number of internship hours (5, 8, 10 whatever divides well into the pace students will be working on the internships). Using one essay question will allow you to require students to state what day and time those hours were worked. Faculty will have to mark essay questions correct, however. A true false question, "I certify that worked (as assigned) hours of internship" will let students self certify but lack a log of when those hours were worked. Either way, you can set the point value to match the assigned number of hours, and put all the internship tracking quizzes in one assignment group, which will show the percent complete when zeros are entered in incomplete quizzes. Those zeros can be entered at the beginning of the semester so that the students can watch their percent complete add up over time. That assignment group can be weighted at zero percent of the final grade, so that the tally will not impact any grade in the course. If weighted assignment groups are not relevant otherwise, all other activities can be included in a single assignment group weighted at 100%.
