Hi everyone,
@jsowalsk , who would you like to market Catalog to? Do you want to market it to instructors as a way to offer courses to others in your institution? Do you want to market the courses themselves, for employees or the public to take?
We use Catalog to sell online courses to the public. So, I have both roles here at USU Extension. I am trying to invite faculty to offer courses to the public through Catalog. So, I'm trying to convince them to take their face-to-face courses online so that their courses can reach more people. I work with the instructors to use Catalog as the portal to offer their courses. To market to them, I show them courses that are already developed in Canvas and how Catalog works for the "students". I also offer them my services as an Instructional Designer to help them design the online course. Some don't know how to present a course online, but I help them with that process. A lot of this type of marketing comes from meeting with instructors. Our Administration has really been emphasizing eLearning so that has been our biggest marketing route. (LOL!)
I also help with the marketing of the courses to the public. Things that we have tried are FaceBook Posts, adding course offerings to our monthly newsletter. We have websites that we add advertisements on (Example: Yard & Garden ) , We hand out flyers at different conferences that we attend. A lot of those flyers have a Promo Code to get people interested. One of the biggest successes that we have had is a Flash Sale that we offered our courses half off with a Promo code for only 2 days. I believe this was advertised through FaceBook and in an email blast to our newsletter list. Most of the marketing to the public is handled by our marketing department, though, and I only help them with understanding the courses so that they know how to market it. They come up with most of the ideas on how to market it to the public.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I didn't explain this correctly.
@kathy_harris This helps tremendously. We currently have our Catalog customers such as departments and colleges market Catalog to the public and internal faculty, staff, and students. In addition, we have advertised it at an Academic Technology Director meeting, Learning Technology Working Group, and offered a write up in the weekly newsletter. Out Instructional Designers provide the faculty to us who they think might be a good fit. In addition, to College and Department interest. I will definitely keep these options in mind. How do you attract new customers to create classes?
