If I mark an assignment as missing, does it send a message to the student??
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @dlandry
Thank you so much for posting your question here in the Canvas Community! If you mark an assignment as "Missing", students can view a "missing" label in their grades page, on the assignment details page, and on their List View dashboard. Depending on their notification settings, they may receive a notification about their missing assignment as well.
Hopefully that helps answer the question. Please reach out if you have any further questions or would like any further clarifications.
Thanks,
Allie

The problem that I am having is that even if I manually mark an assignment as Missing, it is not adding it to the total number of missing assignments shown on the student/person page, thus creating the problem that students think they have no missing assignments. The 0 or lack of grade in that assignment spot is being factored into their grade/percentage, but the missing assignment is not showing in the Missing Assignment number.

We're new Canvas users, and we're experiencing an issue that may already have a solution. Sometimes we mark an assignment as missing or a student doesn't turn in an assignment by the due date and it automatically gets labeled as missing. That's good. But, when we grade a missing assignment that was submitted, the missing distinction doesn't automatically go away. We're having to go in and fix these one by one. Is there a way around this?
Thanks for your time.
Amy
Canvas can you please also have an assignment a teacher codes as missing show up on the students "Recent feedback" list as missing. If you code an assignment as missing it doesn't show up on that list. Then I tried entering 0 for assignments that are not handed in but students (and parents) see the green check mark in front of the assignment and don't even notice they received a 0 for the assignment. Thank You
