The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
Hi! We've tried to Moderate New Quizzes to give additional time to students while they are taking the test, but it does not seem to work. Does anybody know a way around for this?
Also, is it possible to edit questions' correct answers once the studens have taken the test?

If you literally mean you tried to add time after the student had already begun the quiz, that might be the issue. Accommodations need to be setup beforehand. Thank you @gnoack ! As I see it, it is only possible to regrade student by student and not the a specific question for everyone at a time as in Classic Quizzes, is that right?

You should be able to regrade for all who have taken the quiz. See the "Select Regrade Option" on the guide I linked.

In New Quizzes, it is currently not possible to moderate a quiz attempt in the following ways:
The ‘additional time’ option can only be used in conjunction with an ‘extra attempt’ and ‘reopen’. And yet, the design of the moderate menu suggests that each function can be applied separately, or that once a quiz attempt has run out of time, ‘re-open’ can be used with either ‘extra attempt’ or ‘additional time’.
Furthermore, if a teacher applies additional time while a quiz is in progress or re-opens a quiz and adds time (but not an attempt), this reflects next to the student’s name in moderate (as shown below) but does not actually take effect for the student.
This has caused a lot of confusion for lecturers, students and support staff.

Hello there, @FaiekDolley ...
We request that either:
- Additional time be an option for an in progress quiz AND/OR ‘re-open’ + ‘additional time’ (without extra attempts) be an option for an individual completed quiz (if technically possible)
OR
- The design of the New Quizzes Moderate menu be improved to clearly indicate that ‘Additional time’ is a sub-option only available for selection when an ‘Extra attempt’ is selected.
AND
- Additional time will only reflect next to a student’s name when it is actually available to the student.
If you would like to request changes to the way that New Quizzes currently function, one way to do that is to submit a new Feature Idea here in the Community or to participate in a Feature Idea conversation that has already been submitted. I see that you are a relatively New Member here in the Community...which means that you have to "rank up" in order to submit new Feature Ideas. Once you participate a bit more in the Community, your New Member ranking will change so that you can submit Feature Ideas. But, you can still participate in existing Feature Ideas that might be similar to what you are wanting to see implemented within Canvas. Here are some documents I usually link people to:
I searched for Feature Ideas related to New Quizzes and additional time, and these two were in the top search results. I know they may not get at exactly what you are requesting, but I'm sharing these just so you can see what they look like:
Hopefully some or all of these links will be of help to you. Please let the Community know if you have any other questions about this...thank you.
