How do I get the reference number to order  for the books needed for the class?

You have asked your question in a global community of Canvas users who only have access to their own accounts and courses, and are unable to answer course-specific questions. However, it is very likely that your required text information is listed in your Course Syllabus, and if you are a college student, you college Bookstore will also be able to answer that question for you.
