I tried Office 365 Cloud Assignment type. It is a really good idea, students get their own copy of a file that they can fill in and submit. It looks like they can even edit the document right in the browser and any changes they make get saved in their owe onedrive account. The problem is, my kids get a read only copy which they cant edit. Is anyone else having this issue, and how can it be resolved. I dont want them to have to download the file, the defeats the whole point of the office 365 integration!
Thanks
I am having the same issue
Hello @jason_english Thank You for posting your question. @148334
Thank You as well for your posting. To be sure, are you setting up the Office 365 integrated assignment using these directions?
Then, are your students attempting to submit their work back to you using these directions?
If you could please come back to this topic to provide an update, that would be helpful. Thanks, and looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing the how to document.
"The problem is, my kids get a read only copy which they cant edit."
So then they have to save the file onto their computer and then upload it again. I cant actually see how this is Office 365 integration. I might as well just put the file there for them to download and upload once they have completed it. I was really hoping it would be like google classrooms where you could actually see what the students have edited.
Is that what you would suggest @Chris_Hofer ? Just have the file uploaded into Canvas for them to download?
Thanks again for the assistance
Good morning, @jason_english ...
That would be a good alternative, yes. As the Guides I linked to suggest, students should be able to see your document from O365, and then it makes a copy of that file which is saved in their own O365 account. They are able to edit their own copy which they would then submit to you, and it would show up in your SpeedGrader for the assignment. I hope this helps, Jason.
Thanks for the reply. But, it still doesn't work as the guide suggests. Can you tag someone in that may know what the issue it? Or should I log a support ticket? What is the process in seeking him on these kind of issues. Thanks @Chris_Hofer for your advice here.
Hi @jason_english ...
Here's a Guide for you on how to contact technical support at Instructure: How to contact Canvas Support
Was this ever solved?I'm having the same problem- been frustrating me for over a week. I'm trying to avoid the kids downloading, working, saving, uploading.- It is supposed to work, but it doesn't for me.
