Hi all, new to the group. We are slowly moving from Moodle to Canvas and I have a question about formal online exams.
In Moodle, I often found myself overriding the exam start time for students located in other countries which was fairly simple and I was wondering if there was a way of doing this in Canvas…
On a similar line, some students were entitled to more time to take the exam and I was wondering if there was a way of doing this too… Any help appreciated
Thanks
Rick
Hello @Redblade017 ...
Sorry to see that your question has been sitting out here without a response for over a month. Let's see if we can get you some answers...
First, there are really three places in Canvas where time zones can be configured. The first is at the Canvas account level. This is controlled by your school's local Canvas administrator or someone from your school's Online Learning/eLearning department. The time zone specified here is usually where your school is located. Check out this admin Guide: How do I set details for an account? - Canvas Community. Next, you can configure your individual courses to have a time zone...which usually would be the same as the time zone that is set at the account level. Check out: How do I set a time zone for a course? - Canvas Community. Finally, every user in Canvas can configure their own personal settings to specify the time zone that they live in. So when you are assigning availability dates and due dates to your assignments, Canvas will figure all of that out for you and your students based on individual time zone settings. See these two Guides (which are essentially the same for both user roles): How do I set a time zone in my user account as an ... - Canvas Community and How do I set a time zone in my user account as a s... - Canvas Community.
Next, yes...you can give students more time on an exam if the need arises. Depending on the version of the Quizzing engine that you are using, you can use either of these two Guides:
I hope these resources will be of help to you. Please let Community members know if you have any other questions about this...thanks! Take care, stay safe, and be well.
Hi Chofer,
Thank you for the reply.
I did get a response regarding my question that solved my problem so all good. Regarding the Time Zone issue, I knew how to do it in Moodle but just wanted to know how to do it if needed in Canvas so I will bookmark your useful links for any future need.
Thank you so much for the help as it is appreciated in keeping my on track as a fairly new user of Canvas.
Best wishes
Rick
