How can we check papers submitted thru Canvas for plagiarism?

It depends on if your school has TurnItIn or some other plagiarism tool licenced and integrated with Canvas.  If so, then yes.  There are a couple of different ways the tool could be integrated, but typically when you create an Assignment, set the submission type to Online and check the box for File Upload.  After that there should be a check box for Plagiarism Review where you can select TurnItIn.  Again, this will only be present if your school has a licence with TurnItIn (or other plagiarism checker) and has it integrated with Canvas.
