How do I change the name of a folder?

Hi,  @michelle_smith4  Welcome to the Canvas Community! The procedure for renaming a folder is the same as that for renaming a file, and instructions are in How do I rename a file as an instructor? The three-dot menu that contains the Rename option will display upon clicking the folder in the right panel of Files.

Renaming a folder name in Files is not the same as renaming a file name -- is there any way to rename a folder in Files (without deleting it and starting over)?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a difference between renaming files and renaming folders in a course "Files" area of Canvas.  The process is the same...in my own testing.

• How do I rename a file as an instructor?

In my own testing, when I am in my course "Files", I click on the three-dot kebab icon on the far right side of a file or folder name.  Then, I select "Rename".  A text box for the file or folder name allows me to type in a new name for the file or folder.  I can then hit "Enter" on my keyboard or click the checkmark icon next to the file or folder, and it will change the name of the item.
