Hello,
I used to be able to do this (as recently as Nov 2018), but somehow something is different or at some point I totally forgot something basic...
When I upload a SCORM package to a course, using the SCORM tool (from course navigation), how can I give the item a unique name?
I upload multiple SCORM packages developed in Captivate to the same course, and as I make them each graded assignments, I can easily rename the *assignment* to be what I need, but when I go to the SCORM tool from the course navigation, all I see is a list of items titled "Captivate e-Learning Course" ... except for the one that I loaded in November 2018, on which, at the time, I had assigned a specific name. This is a problem because if I need to replace or delete one...I can't easily tell which is which.
To be clear, ALL of these package zip files had unique file names when I uploaded them, and I didn't change any settings in the publishing. The only thing that seems to have changed is I can't rename the item in Canvas.
TIA.
With SCORM in the Navigation pane I add as either a graded/ungraded assignment. Next I open the assignment and grab the URL, then I access Apps opening the Redirect App - this is where I rename the SCORM assignment and paste the URL, elect to show in course navigation and save. I return to the navigation pane and refresh my screen to see the renamed SCORM assignment and drag SCORM to hide from students. See screen shot - hope that helps.
Thanks. Unfortunately, that process doesn't seem to be working. The redirect app is changing the name of the assignment page and html tab on that page, but the actual name that appears on the "SCORM" page (and as such the name of the html tab that appears if the captivate player is opened in a different window) remains the incorrect name.
Hi Mirah,
Enter a new name, enter URL then choose from available options: open in new page, within...etc - Add App.
Next go to Navigation, refresh page so Redirect information populates - drag in the position desired - save.
The created redirect link with the name added will show in left nav pane or within chosen options.
Hope that clarifies -
This seems to be a very different way of using SCORM packages from what my district has. All we can do is upload a SCORM package (from local computer) to a SCORM library in Canvas. Then you click on a symbol which opens that package as an assignment. There is no URL involved at all, and as far as I can tell, that is also the case with mlake, who originally posted this issue.
I have the exact same issue as mlake. At one time, I uploaded a SCORM package, and it has a name which I gave it, related to the content. It's still in my SCORM library. But now, when I upload packages, they are ALL labeled as "Captivate e-Learning Course," and there is no way to change that. This makes it very cumbersome to work with this library, because you have to open and start a package to be sure what's in it.
What I see in this thread doesn't seem to address the problem which mlake and I have. This isn't about how to get the SCORM package into Canvas. It's about how to rename the packages which are in Canvas already as .ZIP uploads.
Does any have any experience with this?
I agree @englishskills50 . I have the same issue. When I previously uploaded SCORM files I was able to give the file my chosen name, which made it easily identifiable within the SCORM section of Canvas, thus allowing easy deletion of duplicates or unwanted SCORM packages. As you rightly say, it appears that Canvas updates have removed the option to rename SCORM packages from within the SCORM area itself - now there is only an option to Open the package assignment, Preview or Delete the package.
I'm using SCORM packages created by others and the creators name all similar packages in the same way, e.g. 2D Shapes - without differentiating the level, so when I upload in bulk it makes it very cumbersome to attach the right SCORM package to the right level section of my course tile. I have tried renaming the Zip files before uploading them to Canvas via the SCORM tool, but the package reverts back to the original name its creator gave, i.e. 2D Shapes.
After searching the Internet, I think I may have found a possible solution. It involves unzipping the SCORM package, opening its meta.xml file and modifying the title, then save by overwriting the existing meta file and rezipping all the files again. A very cumbersome job and, I'm not even sure if this does the trick as I haven't tested it out yet. I'll try it today and update if all goes well.
I'd welcome a quicker way to do this or - even better - if Canvas developers re-added the SCORM rename option back 🙂
UPDATE EDIT: Renaming meta file and rezipping doesn't work 😞
