[ARCHIVED] Setting up student groups w/ large class/sections

Hi, I had an instructor who was wondering if there is a workaround relating to setting up student groups. She has 850 students over all her courses and wants to create groups based upon sections but at the moment it is tedious and I was wondering if I am overlooking anything to help. I suggested having canvas split them into groups, require same section, and have canvas randomly assign from that section then adjust as needed since she wants basically to assign them but choosing from 850 names on the left is time-consuming. Any ideas about settingup/ managing large sections.

I have had little experience with sections but the wonderful  @jayde_colquhoun ‌ is a master at it. Her discussion here might be of support to you Large course management: Sections/Groups.
