I sometimes will leave a comment for a student in Speedgrader. They have told me that they respond to those comments. Where do I find those?

Hi Sarah -
This is one of my favorite features of SpeedGrader (and there are a lot of awesome things about it). When they reply to a comment you've left on an assignment, it goes right in-line with the original feedback you provided. So, if you reopen the item in SpeedGrader or you open the Grade Detail Tray from the gradebook, you'll see the comments together!
Because I use this feature so frequently, I"ve adjusted my notifications to receive any of the comments left by students as emails in my institution email, too! Pro tip: you can reply to these from your email client and the replies go right back with the graded assignment! How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as an instructor?

Thank you soo much!! I will reset things and go look!!!
Hello, Kristin,
I've just found that if you have "peer review" activated for students to engage with each others' work, this ultimately disables the editorial tool bar from appearing within Speedgrader (allowing you to do strikethroughs, highlights, do in-text comments, etc). This seems counterintuitive to disable functions that actually enable a close textual reading and review. That means if you want peer review, students and instructors can only make comments in the right column text box below the submission information. Have you or your other Canvas design folks found a way around this, so that students can do peer review of each other's work and still use all the great tools Speedgrader otherwise offers?
Thank you,
Casey Golomski
Problem solved! The Docviewer editing tools disappear if you anonymize the peer review. Peer review must NOT be anonymous; then the Docviewer editing tools are available.
