[ARCHIVED] Speedgrader maxing out my CPU

Hello,

Speedgrader seems to be taxing the CPU to a huge extent. My computer is almost overheating due to the load. It's like there is an infinite loop or three somewhere in the code. This is also true for others at my university.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Canvas Community!!!

If you can provide the CPU usage when you have the SpeedGrader open I would highly recommend sending that information over to Instructure Support through a trouble ticket from Help > Report a Problem.  I have never seen issues with the SpeedGrader maxing out CPUs before and have not had any of my faculty report it.  If you can provide them with a screen cast (which might be difficult given your CPU issues) that would be even better.

Any chance you use Chrome? A colleague recently shared this article in a Slack group chat: Why Chrome Uses So Much Freaking RAM. May or not be related to your issue, but interesting nonetheless (I hope).

So what happens is, when I scroll a PDF, the chrome renderer goes to about 30% CPU usage. It also goes up to 70% sometimes. I just had it go to 106% when editing a comment in a rubric. Everyone else in my lab has the same issue (those using MacOS at least). I wonder if it's something to do with the deployment our university is using.

This is happening to me too - it's making grading very difficult.  I run Canvas/Speedgrader on Chrome.
