If I select "Record/Upload Media", will that count in my canvas storage quota? Will they be not be deleted or removed until I click "remove"?

The answer to this is a little complicated and will be changing in the an update on November 1st.  As of right now, no they will not count against your quota and will not be removed.

• If you are a Teacher and use that tool in your course, the media files will be added to the Files are in the course.
• If you are a Student and use the media tool for an assignment submission those files end up in your personal Files area which you can access under Account/Files.
• As a Teacher or Student, if you record directly using the tool it will NOT count against your course or user quota.  But if you upload a video using the tool it will count against either the course quota (for teachers) or personal quota (for student assignment submissions).

The bullets above are my interpretation of the new changes and how it's going to work.

However, according to the release notes you linked to, "This change to newly recorded or uploaded media via the Upload/Record Media link does not affect Canvas file quotas." (emphasis added).

I'm sorry to question your response but I'm just trying to figure it out myself and I'm somewhat confused 🤔.

Do you still think that uploading videos via the Upload/Record Media tool DOES count towards the course storage quota?

I don't know for sure, but here is the full paragraph you quoted from (I've bolded the portion you left out).

This change to newly recorded or uploaded media via the Upload/Record Media link does not affect Canvas file quotas. However, media files uploaded via any other method (such as the Upload Files link) do affect the course, group, or user files quota, respectively.

And you ask "Do you still think that uploading videos via the Upload/Record Media tool DOES count towards the course storage quota?".

Based on that full paragraph I still read it the same and that if you record or upload using the Media Upload option within the Rich Content Editor it should not count against your personal or course quota.  The distinction is how you upload it.  If you upload it as media through the RCE, or as just a file.  

I can't say this is exactly correct I'm just sharing my interpretation of it based on how i read those release notes.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I misunderstood your initial post - I was only looking into files uploaded via the Upload/Record Media link and how this affects the storage.
