I have had this issue for a while but just assumed it would end up being fixed. I am a college student and my classes use Canvas for quizzes. Whenever I start a Canvas quiz, it automatically starts my time at 1 hour 0 minutes instead of 0 hours 0 minutes. This was not as big an issue last semester, but with everything being online now, I am concerned that my exams in the future will be cut by an hour due to a bug in Canvas. Is there anybody here who has had similar issues or any developers who would know what to do?
Hi there, @jts0047 ...
This is interesting and a little strange. I've never heard of a situation like you've described before. Just for clarification, when you click on a link in your course to start taking a quiz, you'll see a screen that has some initial information about the quiz...such as this:
Has your instructor set a time limit on your quiz? In my example, there is no time limit set.
Another thing to check (and I'm not even sure if this would help or not) would be your own time zone settings for your Canvas account. How do I set a time zone in my user account as a student?
If you could check on these things in your Canvas account to see if there is any improvement, that would be great. Other than those things, I cannot think of anything else to try at the moment other than to reach out to Canvas Support.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon! Take care, stay safe, and be well.
I did what you said and it may have been fixed. However, I will not know until the next quiz I take.
When I looked at my time settings, it had "none" for the timezone, so I changed that to my timezone. Also, when I completed the quiz, the time completed still said 2 minutes even though it started an hour ahead. Also, the quiz had no time limit. It could have to do with some issue with my computer's clock, so I will have to try it with my phone next time.
Thanks for the advice! If the issue persists, I may return later.
