[ARCHIVED] Student group-based online test

I am trying to design an online midterm exam. The exam contains 3 problems (it is an Engineering course) with 8 to 10 questions per problem. In order to reduce any cheating probabilities, I have decided to have 3 slightly different sets of questions, each assigned to a random group of my students. I see that in Canvas I can have it as 3 different quizzes each assigned to one group of the students. However, I believe each of these would have a different name. Would it be possible that all students see their test exactly with the same name as the students from the other groups? I mean, otherwise, if the students see different test names, they would try to find a peer with the same test name and discuss it with them.

Oh that's a very clever solution you have with the 3 quiz versions, and you want the same name. I think you could trick the students with spaces in the name. I'm going to ping  @James ‌ (who may be busy with his own midterm setup) to confirm that spaces matter in Canvas.

For example, using - to denote where the space will be: Spring-2020-Midterm, Spring--2020-Midterm, Spring-2020--Midterm

The other alternative is to make question banks and let Canvas randomize the quiz for each student since you'll have different question versions anyway. Oh, here's the info with Classic Quizzes.

How do I create a quiz with a question group linked to a question bank?

So 3 question banks: Question 1 Bank, Question 2 Bank, Question 3 Bank

and put all the variations those banks and let Canvas pull 1 question from each bank on the quiz. So some students may get all of version 1 question while another can get version 1, version 2, version 3 questions, and so on.

I don't know anything about using New Quizzes (we don't have them turned on) but you can probably do a similar process.

Thank you very much for the suggestion of naming trick. I think it should work.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can use the question bank option as my questions are the same, but the changes are in the problem features/parameters, which would affect the results in almost every question.
