The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
Is there a way to bulk add videos into a Collection from your main Studio dashboard, or do they need to be moved one video at a time? If the latter, who thought that was a good idea to not include this ability?
Thanks!
Hi there, @sarah-canatsey ...
I don't really have an answer for you...though I do agree that mass-moving videos that are already in Studio in bulk to a single Collection would be really helpful (and I'm sure that @kona would also agree). You might want to post that question to Studio Release Notes (2020-06-03). But, you also might want to create a new Feature Idea about this, too, so that people can vote and comment on it.
I hope these resources will be of help to you, Sarah. Sing out if you have any other questions about this. Be well...stay safe.
Thanks! I'll add my comment to the release notes. It just seems like sometimes great ideas are made, but the migration of material that's already been created (over years for some people) is just not given the attention it needs. Similar to the lack of a migration plan for test banks to New Quizzes.
@sarah-canatsey ...
While I don't really have much insight on the roadmap for Studio features, maybe this is just a "first step" for organizing Studio videos by folders (Collections). Maybe they have plans to do bulk moves...but it's just not implemented yet. Like I said, I don't know the roadmap...but we can certainly hope that something like this will be coming. My $0.02.
I couldn't agree more that this is sorely needed. Also, I don't see why moving a video to a collection removes it from "My Library." I could envision an instructor wanted to make collections for each course they teach, but include the same video in multiple collections. As it stands, a video can only live in one place at a time.
After spending several hours creating quizzes in a series of videos for one of my faculty members, imagine my ire after realizing that I couldn't simply "send to" or "copy to" as I can do with so many other things in canvas. Sigh...I will start over again tomorrow. But how frustrating! I hope it's on the radar. Thanks! peg
