I am taking a course and have to submit and assignment. The green "submit assignment" button is on the page, but when I click on it it does not give me a text box to type my assignment.

I would recommend changing browsers to see if that helps with the button not working.

Here are some troubleshooting steps:

• Check your device compatibility: What are the basic computer specifications for Canvas?
• Check your browser compatibility: Which browsers does Canvas support? 
• Try a different browser. The latest version of Chrome works great in both Windows and MacOS.
• If none of these methods solve the problem, contact Canvas Support. General instructions are in How do I get help with Canvas as a student?, but your school's support setup might vary somewhat, in which case ask your local IT Department for additional troubleshooting assistance.

 @deborah_mcguire ‌, Robbie has given you great advice; this is most likely a browser issue. If you have already double-checked to ensure that the browser you're using is the most recent version, you could also check to make sure it is in fact set as a text-entry assignment (you should see that guidance in the assignment description); if it's set as something other than text entry—e.g. file upload or website URL—that text box will not display.
