In the Gradebook, is there a quick and easy way to copy the grade scores from an actual student into the Test Student's scores? That would be wonderful for creating hypothetical final grades depending on how a student performs on future assignments/tests/etc.
If it's there, I'm not seeing it.
Isn't that the point of the Test Student?
Hello @eskolnick Welcome to the Canvas Community. Thank you for posting your question. I am not aware of any function that would allow you to copy scores from an actual student to the "Test Student" role. The "Test Student" role is not only for the Gradebook...but most other parts of your Canvas course...to see what your course would look like from a student perspective. Check out this Guide for more information: How do I view a course as a test student using Student View?
I hope this will help, Evan. Please let Community members know if you have any other questions about this...thanks.
Thanks for your response. I use Student View all the time, but having the Test Student show up in the Gradebook seems pointless if you can't use it to project a certain student's chances of passing the class.
I guess I'm stuck using Excel for this.
Hi again, @eskolnick ...
This might not be a complete solution to your question, but have you ever tried out the "What if?" feature as a Test Student? How do I approximate my assignment scores using the What-If Grades feature?
Hi @Chris_Hofer ,
Thanks for your follow-up. Since the Test Student scores are generally blank, am I right in thinking that making use of this feature would require my manually filling in grades on all assignments for the Test Student? If so, that doesn't seem any more automated or fast than simply doing this from the Gradebook, or in Excel (which is my current solution).
@eskolnick ...
That's correct. The "What if" feature allows students to type in any made up score...so they can see how many points they would need to get in order to get a passing grade on the assignment or for the overall course.
Yes, unfortunately the "What if" feature isn't helpful to my students or to me. Future assignments etc. in my Canvas shells are not revealed for the entire semester, so my students can't see all the upcoming assignments etc. in order to figure out what kind of score they need to get a certain grade in the course as a whole. And in order for me to do the same thing for a given student "behind the scenes", I have to manually plug all their existing scores into either Canvas or Excel, and then start punching in hypotheticals for everything yet to come.
Oh, well. It would be a nice feature to be able to instantly create a "Test" version of a particular student.
