Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone can give me a little direction. I'm trying to import a SCORM file into Canvas. It is a rather large file (1.4 GB). I have gotten it to import successfully, and I can even preview it fine. However, no assignment is ever created, so it is never visible to students. Any idea what can cause this? Or how it can be fixed?
Canvas' documentation says that if it takes more than a few seconds to create the assignment after uploading (which it does), then configuration is needed for the SCORM LTI. Are there any resources to explain what changes could be attempted? I've tried a few other small, test SCORM packages and they work fine.
Thank you for your help!
Hi wjw2406, this is a pretty low-tech suggestion, but I wonder if you are bumping against the storage quota for your course. I can't tell if you're an admin or an instructor, but if the latter you may want to check what your file storage quota is for your course: How do I set details for a course? That size is usually well over what most institutions set, and could be part of the issue. I have seen in the past that Canvas will allow an instructor to upload a large file which exceeds the quota, but then refuses to budge for the next item in the course. Maybe...just maybe....it's accepting the SCORM but then will not do anything else (like creating the assignment). Otherwise, I'm afraid I don't have many great words of wisdom to offer! ![]()
Hi @kblack , thanks for your reply! That might very well be a possibility, as our limit is 500 MB! It certainly can't hurt to investigate. I'm a support staff member in an academic department trying to finagle this together for several faculty members who are getting jittery because we're close to the start of the semester, and was hoping that someone out there had either a low-tech fix or knew the hi-tech problem and how to fix it -- I feel bad pawning it off for IT to try to figure everything out, as I'm sure they have many other things going on 😮
Hello there, wjw2406...
We're coming up on almost two months without any new activity in this particular discussion topic, so I thought I'd check in with you. Has your question now been resolved based on the feedback that you received from @kblack ? Or, are you still looking for some help with your initial question? If you feel that Ken's response has helped to answer your question, please feel free to mark it "Correct". However, if you're still looking for some help with this question, please let us know by post a message below so that members of the Canvas Community can continue to assist you. Since we've not had much activity in this topic for while, I'm going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered", but that won't keep you or others from posting additional questions/comments below. I hope that's alright with you, William. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!
The exact same issue is happening with me. Just started a few days ago. I have about a 68 MB Articulate Storyline file, and I also tried a 12 MB file that I uploaded last week, and no success. Here is everything I tried and thought of:
- I tried publishing to Scorm 2004 as well (before I would export to Scorm 1.2).
- Checked launch URL, as well as all credentials (secret key etc) for the Scorm app at the main account level
- Tried uploading in different courses, brand new blank courses.
- Created a 2 MB file but exporting text box and a shape, failed to upload (just gets stuck at the "go" button like you say")
- Funny thing is, the course is fine:
I am able to view it and complete the content (everything works) in the Scorm section, of Canvas (clicking on the eye icon). I am also able to view it on Scorm Cloud with no issues, as well as publishing to Review 360, video and web.
I am not sure what to do anymore. Someone from Canvas, please help!
