[ARCHIVED] Where is the Canvas server for Germany?

I would like to know where the servers are located for Canvas users in Germany.

Right now I am only on a test account, but my school is interested in purchasing an LMS. They do, however, have concerns about the location of confidential data.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Hello  @DeletedUser  Welcome to the Canvas Community!

While I cannot answer your first question, I can address your second one.

We have been with Canvas since 2012; in fact, our entire state system of community and technical colleges (USA) has been with Canvas that long. Never in our 8 year history have we experienced a breach of user data in our system, nor have we heard of one happening with any Canvas user data anywhere. And many of us in our state system have close ties with Instructure, and would hear more than might be disclosed in a press-release. However, no need to take my word for it, here is some info...........

Thank you,  @James  , and I should have thought to include that since  @DeletedUser  is specifically asking about Germany, and Instructure spent a considerable amount of resources and time complying (actually exceeding) with the requirements of GDPR.

Jens here, Canvas Solutions Engineer for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. 

Our European Canvas customers can choose to have Canvas hosted either at the AWS hosting center in Dublin or Frankfurt/Main. However, most of our German Canvas customers decide to go with Frankfurt/Main as server location. 

Since you have reached out to our Canvas team in region already, we're very much looking forward talking to you about this and other things in more detail very soon.

Thanks everyone! This is the first time that I have had a quick and decisive answer provided by a Forum.

So what I understand now is that as Clients in Germany we are able to choose Servers and thus we can reassure our users (students, parents, staff) that their data is being saved/managed within Europe?

That might just seal the deal, so let's see what happens after I talk to my Team.
