Hello,

I find this whole online instruction very confusing, although I've been teaching on canvas for three semesters now. Is there anyway I can get some guidance?

Thank you.

Hello there, @BarbaraKinney …

Canvas Community members are here to help you in any way we can.  What kinds of questions do you have?  Are you wanting to know how certain parts of Canvas work?  Are you wanting to know how to create things like discussion topics, assignments, quizzes, etc.?  This Canvas Community has lots of great tutorials (both written Guides and short videos) that you can look through, but I think it would be helpful to know from you which areas of Canvas you are currently struggling with so that we can provide some resources for you.

Hoping to hear back from you soon!

Hi @BarbaraKinney

I will echo what my good friend @Chris_Hofer said, we are here to help!

First, I have to ask if your school has provided any trainings and orientations for your and your fellow faculty members. If so, you really need to take advantage of them for many reasons:

  • They will be specific to your school, your school's Canvas environment and any customization your school may have made to Canvas,
  • You will meet fellow faculty already on this journey, and they can be a very valuable resource,
  • You will meet some of your school's Canvas team, or at least one - their trainer, and those folks are your local, onsite experts!

Below are some getting started resources from this community. I have included videos, because they can be great when you are just getting started.

As Chris also said, come back any time, we are always happy to answer questions!

Oh, and my final advice, HAVE FUN! As with all learning, sometimes it can be frustrating, but as long as you treat it as a new adventure learning new ways to help your students learn, it will be fun.
