As How do I use the Dashboard as a student? explains, the dashboard is the first thing a student sees upon logging into Canvas. If you've logged into your Canvas account and are seeing something other than the card view depicted in that lesson, check the toggle depicted in https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-15243-4212947391 and switch from the List or Recent Activity Views to the Card View if that proves to be necessary.
