Our teachers are using the iOS app to grade assignments. Those that have been using the app for a few months are now receiving an error message on their iPad stating storage is nearly full.
When we check settings - storage and usage - Speed Grader is using 4.5 GB of space.
Is there a way to clear this so the app is not taking up memory on the iPad?
We use other apps that allow us to clear cache within the app.

Hello @tina_christophe ...
I've been chatting with someone from the Instructure Help Desk about your posting, and it sounds like this has been reported as an issue as it relates to deleting files and setting a cap within the app. The technician is attaching our chat conversation to the tracker so they are able to reference the question you have posted here as well. It doesn't appear that clearing cache will solve the issue. Another suggestion by the technician was to try and remove (uninstall) the app from your iPad, and then re-install it to see if that makes a difference. Give that a shot to see if it helps. Let us know by coming back here to share your results. Thanks.

This did work in this specific case. Thanks for your response!
Hi Tina--
I do am having storage issues on the app. Quick question: when you deleted your app and reinstalled, did you lose any of your graded content?
I'm basically using my phone to provide video feedback on essays...then I upload it to Canvas. I'm just worried that if I delete the app and reinstall, my students will lose their video feedback.
If you delete the app you won't lose any graded assignments or video feedback. This information is saved to the server when you submit the feedback. As long as the feedback is uploaded successfully at the time of feedback, you are okay.
Hey Chris--
I too am having storage issues on the app. Quick question: after the app is deleted and reinstalled, will I lose any graded content?

I am wondering if this will also work on for resolving storage problems related to the Canvas Student app. We are having students with over 1 GB of storage in their app on the iPad. We haven't had this problem in the past.
@BStutzman ,
Manually deleting the app will remove cached files associated with the app, but not login or keychain information. When you reinstall the app, it won't take up as much space.
Has there been any development on this front? We have version 1.11.7 installed and storage for Canvas Teacher is still an issue. Yes, deleting and reinstalling is a workaround, but not a sustainable solution for our faculty.
Hello,
Is there an actual solution to this specific problem, other than brute forcing it by uninstalling the app? Having this same problem at present, Canvas Teacher app on my ipad is 12.73G and rising (well, not actually as it's saturated the storage on the device).
Can Instructure investigate and propose an actual fix rather than this clumsy workaround please? Busy time of the year to be uninstalling apps...
Best regards,
Nigel W.
I would like to second the question on if there is a real solution? Clearing the cache did not work and after using the app for one year, my tablet had 187.12GB of Documents and Data related to this app. After deleting the app, it looks like I will be back up over a gig after grading 10 students or less.
