Our AD for Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness would like to know if there is a way for teachers to track students to see who has and has not read (opened) the comments the teachers leave in an assignment?
The comments are left in the comments field in SpeedGrader while the teacher is grading the paper.
cms_hickss, you've posted this identical question in another space a few minutes ago, and I'll direct anyone who comes across it to that posting, which has been answered: is it possible to track who reads a comment in an Assignment? Since this is the Canvas Admins space, perhaps someone with admin or developer skills will weigh in on running a report that shows that a student has clicked on a comment; I'm hard-pressed to imagine that even those with the most awesome skills have come up with a report that can determine if the student has actually read it.
Not everyone is in both communities. That is why it was posted twice.
Hey cms_hickss,
Did you know that you can share a post in more than one community space? Rather than having to create two copies with differing comment threads, etc you can create your post and then use the Share link in the upper right to share it into additional spaces. Because you are a member of the admin group, for example, you should be able to ask questions in the Ask a Question... area and then share it into the admin group.
We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. If you still have a question about this or if you have information that you would like to share with the community, by all means, please do come back and leave a comment. Also, if this question has been answered by one of the previous replies, please feel free to mark that answer as correct.

The simple answer is, there is no tracking for that. There is no line that says "Read by Sam Student at 7:41pm on November 14, 2017".
I hate to say it, but it's possible that most teachers either think students aren't reading them or are --and it just depends on if the teacher is a glass is half full or half empty type of person to which one they believe for their students.
Thanks for following up. I think I originally asked you to ask this question because faculty members wanted to be able to check whether or not their comments were being read, and when.
There is no answer here but the question can be closed. I have never seen this tracking item anywhere either.
@ginan ,
Have you submitted this a Feature Request at https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas?sr=search&searchId=30971969-e00b-4eed-bd96-638ec1005...? A lot of ideas are being looked at and this one might get some traction.
Robbie
I haven't but I will. Thanks!
