[ARCHIVED] .pages file type (Apple) to "assignments"?

A student submitted a file that is a .pages file type (Apple) to "assignments" but it doesn't show, as a .docx would. Won't download either, and I'm on a Mac. Correction: it downloads as a web file that only asks for me to log in to Canvas again.

Do you have pages installed on your Mac?  If not it's not going to open for you even if you can download it. I'd suggest asking the student to export it from Pages into Word or PDF format and then re-submit it.  That way you'll be able to view and mark it up in speedgrader.

I DO have Pages, Numbers, etc. installed on my Mac.

You may want to check with the student that they did in fact save the file correctly and didn't change the file type later hoping that would just make it compatible.  Downloading as a web file sounds like it maybe wasn't uploaded correctly.

Thanks, but I would ask right back: If the student opened it in Pages, on a Mac, why would it not save it as a proper Pages file? Remember, I'm on a Mac. Next-to-most-recent OS.

In addition, when I click to download the file, since it isn't showing up, why does it download it as ldap.html?

And one more piece of Canvas error evidence: I had a student submit an Excel file and I couldn't see her last column in Canvas. It wouldn't scroll over, and it wasn't down below. So, I clicked the arrow to download it. And it came up as ldap.html

Is that a setting on my part that I can change? I have clicked that download many times in the past, including the past couple weeks, and have NEVER had ldap.html be the result.

Just sayin'.

Hey Bill,

Thanks for that extra insight about it also happening when you download an excel file.  How are you downloading the file?  I know sometimes when I right-click on a item on various web sites to download it I get issue with it giving me a .html or another strange extension instead of the actual file format of the item.  In speedgrader on the far right side of the page just below the student names it should list the submitted file(s), and to the right of the file name there should be a download arrow icon.  If the file name is very long like the screen shot below, the icon might be over the top of it.  You can drag the bar between the comments and display section to make it wider and get easier access to that download arrow.  

See if that works and let us know.  Also if it's still not working can you let us know that web browser you are using?  If you are using Safari I know it does some weird things with downloads and that might better help us discover what the issue is.
