Canvas keeps flashing a "Failed to create new item" message when I try to create a new assignment. It's not an issue with file size because I'm not adding a file, so what is the problem here?

Hi @alex_voigt Welcome to the Canvas Community. I have seen this occur from time to time, sometimes with an "Oops!" screen. While the specific date that you asked this on did not seem to have an issue, it appears that some users are experiencing long load times, which might be a contributing factor: Instructure Status .
When it's happened to me or one of our faculty, I usually just recommend waiting a bit--perhaps logoff and then log back in--and it somehow seems to correct itself. If it keeps happening repeatedly, however, it may be time to contact support via Help>>Report a Problem. That may get routed to your local support area first and then sent along to Canvas.
But again, whatever does cause that issue, it seems to resolve itself. Hope this helps a bit, Alex.

I've been able to 'Duplicate' a previous page - after doing this canvas allowed me to create a new page the standard way and issue went away.
Logging on and off didn't change anything when I had the issue.
