Why is the "people" tab not visible to the students? I know how to fix it but I'm just wondering why is it that way?
Solved! Go to Solution.
The default setting of "not visible to students" may have been a setting that was pre-set by your school with the application of a template when your course was originally created. I hope you are able to make the adjustment. If you are not able to do so, I encourage you to reach out to your local Canvas Admin. They may be able to explain the rationale behind the setting choice.
Try this: Go into Settings. Go to the Navigation Tab. Enable "People." Then remember to click on Save at the bottom of the screen.

I've moved the People tab into the enable section for navigation and saved this setting. It is visible to me but not to students. What else do I need to do? Every other navigation tool that I've selected is visible, but not "people."
@BrandonStuhl ...
Are you saying that once you enabled the "People" tab via your course "Settings" >> "Navigation" tab screen, there is still a crossed-out eye icon next to it on the left-hand course navigation menu of your course? If so, that shouldn't be the case...unless your Canvas admin team has done some nifty work behind the scenes in Canvas so that the button is always invisible to students...even if you enable it.
Hi Chris...Yes, I've gone to the navigation section in settings, and dragged "people" up to the "visible" section then saved the settings, the "people" tab still does not show up for my students. It appears in my teacher view without the crossed-out eye, but then when I switch to student view, or simply look at the page with a student's computer, "people" does not appear in navigation.
I just need to be able to have students sign up in their own groups for assignments, and there doesn't seem to be any way to do this on their end, even though all the settings on my end indicate as such.
Thanks for the help.
